All inclusive how-to guide to living or retiring in Baja Mexico

Climate

As mentioned on the main page, northern Baja weather is always fairly mild and sunny.  The best months to experience Baja is September thru December. This is the sunniest, most mild, not hot; but breezy cool time of the year.  Because you are so close to the ocean there is always a refreshingly cool breeze.  This keeps weather pleasant every summer and into the latter part of the year.

There is 2 month period every spring when it becomes foggy and grey. This period is called May Gray and June Gloom. Basically, it is because the warmer air moves in colliding with cold ocean air. Many people leave Baja during this time because it is sort of like the Pacific Northwest.  Some days will be nice but not too many. Some days it will start out foggy but by around 1 pm or 2pm , the skies will clear up.

THIS CHART REPRESENTS THE PERCENTAGE OF SUNSHINE IN BAJA.

baja sun

as shown here, May and June have the least amount!!

the best months are undoubtedly November and December. The winds are just right, the sun is always out, the heat is bearable as the breezes are lovely off the ocean.

Mexico’s Baja Peninsula is the longest peninsula in the world – it is 800 miles long. Thats alot of beaches to explore.

Baja California Norte

The climate in Baja California Norte is temperate and rather dry, with Tijuana receiving an average of 9 inches (235 mm) of rain annually, and Rosarito 11 inches (273 mm), mostly between December and March. The Sierra mountain range divides the state and at the higher altitudes in the center of the state there is more rain. This is Mexico’s wine-producing area. Toward the south of the state there are desert areas, with scorching summers and cool winters.

Baja California Sur

The southern part of the Baja Peninsula has warm winters and hot summers with occasional refreshing breezes. The coast of the Sea of Cortes generally has warmer temperatures than the Pacific coast. Los Cabos receives an annual average rainfall of 10 inches (25 cm), which falls mostly in September and October. Once you get down in to the Sur, your summers and Springs are HOT, days are downright uncomfortable at times if you are not used to it.  Many people do not even go there in the summer, waiting till winter to visit this region.
