The wine country of Baja California is fast emerging with “world class” wines. Ensenada has become the Wine and Food capital of Mexico. About 50 miles south of Ensenada, you will descend from a steep hillside into the lush and beautiful Valle de Santo Tomas. (Santo Tomas Vineyards) The original Mision grape vineyards and 100 olive trees were planted in the late 1700′s by missionaries and Loreto Amador. General Abelardo Rodriquez purchased the lands in 1932 transforming them into a thriving high production operation producing more than a million cases of wine annually.
Today under the direction of Juan Pablo Nunez and the masterful hands of winemaker Laura Zamora, those very old vines, and some newer ones, are generating a wide variety of grapes resulting in some of Mexicos finest vintages. Santo Tomas produces a scope of internationally award winning labels.

Guadalupe Valley…..better known as Ensenadas premier wine country.
Although Guadalupe valley is famous, there are a number or hidden treasures south of the region for the wine enthusiast. One of them is Cavas Rubasuvi, a recent wine making project started by a group of families who after following 100 years of tradiition, set off on a quest to provide fresh new alternative to the national wine scene. With varietes like Cabernet, Tempranillo, Shiraz, and others, the project produced 3,500 boxes this year alone, and will be placed into the regional market this year. “The best grapes come from southern Ejido like Uruapan, Santo Tomas. This is where great wineries get their supply of grapes, and we are going to show the best of our production.” said Meza, one of the winemakers.
