Grab a tent and a kayak! Grab your honey! There are so many fantastic camping opportunites within the entire state of Baja that its ridiculous. In Baja we have camped directly on the ocean without one person bothering us or telling us to move, or charging us a penny. There are campgrounds all up and down the coast, there are isolated and deserted stretches of beach where you can just set up and you are good to go. It would take an entire book to describe them all but here I will highlight some of the northern best beaches we have seen. There are only 2. We dont get out much.
<< left, Estero Beach RV Resort, Ensenada area, between Ensenada and Punta Banda. Beautifully manicured and lanscaped RV resort at the famed Estero Beach Hotel. Located about 10 mins south of Ensenada, on the bay. Sand dollars can be found all over the beaches.
SAN QUINTIN. (San Ken-teen) About 5 miles south of the little hamlet of SanQuintin (pacific coast) is a turnoff that takes one to a tiny deserted campground that we found entirely on accident. You must drive down the dirt road for a bit, past a few homes, but after a while you will see a campground sign with an arrow on where to go. Supposedly there is a nightly fee, but we never paid. There is one palapa on the campground and you have to actually go around the hill to get to the beach, so you are not directly camping on the beach. But the view that opens around the hill is totally stunning. San Quintin is about a 3 hour drive from Ensenada, on the one and only road thru Baja, HWY 1.

ERENDIRA
(Air-end-ear-a). Erendira is a beautiful oceanside village about 1 hours drive from Ensenada, off the charts and off the beaten track. Its a slow go because of a very potholed road leading to the village. It is a very convuluted drive to get to the actual ocean and its not easy to find. This is agricultural country as it is very fertile and its like a wetland. You will see many fields of beautiful gorgeous flowers and other various growing things.
Once you get to the actual ocean, the never ending vista is so incredibly stunning that it will literally take your breath away. Get up in the morning and see the views, this is the most beautiful time of day. There is hardly any development going on on the ocean, because of the bad roads and long windy drive to get there. So what you see is one long stretch of beautiful azure and turquoise ocean, as far as the eye can see, with no homes whatsoever, it is so deserted there you will feel like you are the only people alive on the planet. Go with a full tank of gas! Take some protection, you are in Mexico after all, and you are literally miles away from civilization.
Follow the one and only road to the point that you cannot drive any further, way past the campground office. You will see the ocean to the right, at places you will have to get out of the car to get to the beaches. In some places there are rock jetties that you can explore the many tidal pools.
At the campground area you will see a very old wooden 1920s beach cabana, a dressing room so to speak that was popular at the turn of the century. There is an personal home office there, where they collect the $10 a night fee, and a few obvious beach camp sites. There are campers parked there too. But again, you can go park your tent anywhere up and down this beach. We like to go further down to the rock jetty area to do our camping as its free and extremely deserted. Maybe 10 people on the planet know about this place. But be warned: This road is very rough.
